Our vision is to be a “spiritual oasis in the midst of an asphalt jungle.” There was a time when Bethany
was a little country church on a muddy dirt road. That is no longer the case. The road is now five lanes.
The pastures and woods have become apartments, businesses, and shopping centers. In the midst of all
the traffic, the hustle and bustle, the coming and going, our vision is to be a respite for the soul.
We have recently purchased adjacent property, which includes an old veterinary clinic building, that
we are in the process of renovating to become our new Fellowship Center. It will be a place of worship,
prayer, study, fellowship, and food! Yes, eating together is an essential part of our hospitality and
identity!
Our dream is that one day our property will consists of gardens, walking trails, playgrounds: a shared
space where everyone can come for peace or excitement, for solitude or community.
We want our church to be a place where dreams of mission and ministry are born, a place from
which we go forth into the asphalt village, swinging a hammer for Habitat, serving potatoes in a
Mission kitchen, singing hymns in a retirement home, or wherever our dreams may lead.
Fredrick Buechner has said, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the
world’s deep hunger meet.” Our dream is for Bethany to become a haven, a sanctuary, where God is
found, and a vision of this deep gladness finds breath and life.
